ALDERMASTON WOMEN'S PEACE CAMP
 EXPOSE THE NUCLEAR CHAIN
 Friday 12TH (evening) - Sunday 14TH (lunchtime) NOVEMBER 1999

The land which is the site of Aldermaston Atomic Weapons Establishment has
a public right of way through it marked on old maps. There was also a Roman
road running through it. Until the building of the AWE in the 50's, the
land was common land, which local people enjoyed walking on. At the time
local people voiced their opposition to the building of the AWE, but it
went ahead anyway.

For the last fifty years nuclear weapons of mass destruction have been
built there. The plant is not only built on land that was used by local
people and was of indisputable wildlife value; it is also emitting
radiation into the atmosphere and waterways around it. Aldermaston Women's
Campaign is campaigning for the cessation of production work at AWE and for
decommissioning to take place at a rate and manner that will cause minimum
risk to the surrounding environment.

This year's "Crossing Paths" meeting at Aldermaston will look at various
aspects of the nuclear chain and the links they have to the work at
Aldermaston. We hope that as many women as possible will come to the
November camp, to both listen to new speakers and contribute to the
discussion. It's a good opportunity to meet women who are involved in a
variety of campaigns and working in
different ways for change. So do come

SATURDAY 13th
We've hired Tadley Community Centre - nice and warm and dry - from 10am to
6.00 pm for workshops, discussions and creativity around the theme "Expose
the Nuclear Chain". The programme includes:

* Rachel Weston, from Friends on the Earth, talking about civil and
military nuclear links and direct action networking

* A speaker from Campaign against Depleted Uranium talking about the
effects of DU in Iraq, Kosova and Serbia

* A Video on Uranium Mining in Australia, made by Desert Concerns,
including the personal testimonies of those affected by the mining process
on indigenous lands.

* A video of the Channel 4 Mark Thomas programme on AWE Aldermaston

* A final Plenary session to discuss future actions, networking and
co-operation with other anti-nuclear and environmental activists

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY (15th)
We'll be holding a Women in Black vigil at AWE main gate at 11 a.m.
Please bring black clothes for the vigil.

The camp will take place from Friday evening evening to Sunday lunchtime,
so there will also be time for less formal chats around the fire, eating,
partying and actions.
