STOP PRESS! EXCLUSIVE VISIT TO BRISTOL BY
Zephaniah Phiri Maseko, The 'Water Harvester' of Zimbabwe
Speaking at Easton Community Centre, Kilburn Street, Bristol
including refreshments and discussions.

THIS THURSDAY, JUNE 21st, 7.30pm.

Organised by:
Britain and Zimbabwe Sustainable Agriculture Network
Bristol Permaculture Group
Britain Zimbabwe Society
with financial support from the Ashoka Trust.

Mr Phiri is visiting the UK for the first time in thirteen years. Famous all
across the world for his pioneering water harvesting techniques, Mr Phiri
will be coming to BRISTOL at the invitation of BaZiSAN (Bristol and Zimbabwe
Sustainable Agriculture Network.). Thirty years ago, Mr Phiri was thrown out
of his civil service job in apartheid Rhodesia, and forced back to live in a
semi-arid region of rural Zimbabwe. Faced with near-destitution, he looked
at how rain fell, and worked out techniques for 'harvesting' it, bringing
sustainable wealth to the people in his area without harming the
environment.
Now in his seventies, Mr Phiri has created a sustainable system that
provides all his water needs from rainfall alone. He has even developed a
method of making water flow uphill without the use of pumps! His methods
have been adopted by people who care about the planet and about small-scale
farmers all over the world.
The book about his work, 'The Water Harvester: Episodes from the inspired
life of Zephaniah Phiri', by Mary Witoshynski, has just been published by
Weaver Press.

Mr Phiri is an inspiring and captivating speaker. You can hear him yourself
at the meeting in Bristol next Wednesday. And to find out more
