London's 2012 Olympics and Durban's 2010 World Cup.

The workshop is on Sunday in MM4 from 16:30 to 18:30.  Two members of
Abahlali baseMjondolo the South African shack dweller's movement will
be talking about the effects of the World Cup in Durban, South Africa
and representatives from Corporate Watch and Games Monitor will also
be presenting the effects of the Olympics in East London. 
There will be time to discuss the campaigns that people are involved in
and to
ask other people present for their input on similar experiences and
tactics that have been successful.

In July 2012, the Olympic Games will take place in London's East End.
The success of the UK's Olympic bid has precipitated immense corporate
'redevelopment' in London, setting precedents that can be rolled out
across the country. The chosen modes of 'redevelopment' entail
gentrification and privatisation, all conducted at an accelerated rate
that would have been impossible without the stimulus of the Games. The
global 'Olympic movement' is increasingly being dominated by
Multinational corporations. Currently, worldwide partners for the London
Games include corporations such as Coca Cola and McDonald's, while the
official partners include BP, BA and EDF
