Just to explain further.
The original owners of the 13 ha derelict Morlands site sat on it for
10 years until 2001 in the hope that they would get big retail on it,
but the town council and district council said "no", because it would
undermine the town centre.
The Regional Development Agency bought Morlands with the promise of
no big retail and keeping it for employment. Since then they have
done nothing except demolish buildings and build a road. A building
scheduled for demolition was saved by squatters in January 2009.
The RDA has been negotiating with Avalon Plastics to move their
factory to Morlands, releasing their old site for . . . . big retail
So, the town still loses employment land and gets unwanted retail.

>> This is an enquiry e-mail via http://www.tescopoly.org from:

>> Supermarket giant Tesco has announced plans to build a flagship
>> store on the outskirts of Glastonbury.
>> They have submitted a planning application to Mendip District
>> Coucil for a 41,000 square foot store on the current home of
>> Avalon Plastics in Beckery New Road.
>> If planning permission is granted, it will enable Avalon Plastics
>> to move to their new location on the Morlands Enterprise Park.
>> Tesco say that the store will be built on stilts, with a total of

>> Avalon plastics say that their new factory on the Morlands
>> Enterprise Park will cost £5 million to build and fit out, and
>> will safeguard the jobs for 140 local people.
>> The proposed location can be seen here:
>> There's planning permission granted already (to Avalon Plastics,
