Housing Starts as Low as 80,000

Wed, 25 Feb 2009 15:53:00 GMT -
NHBC's latest house-building statistics reveal that the number of applications from builders to start new homes fell by almost two thirds year-on-year during the three-months from November to January. These latest figures come as NHBC's predictions for new home starts for the financial year 2008/09 are revised from 85,000 to 80,000 - well under half the number of new homes started in the financial year 2007/08 (184,819). ...

(NHBC National House Builders Coiuncil is the firm which insures all new marketbuilt houses)

The government's target in 2007 implied over 214,000 new starts every year for 14 years.

(Barker suggested 240,000 was more appropriate)

Council house waiting lists reach a record 2 million, it was annouced to-day.

When will they learn that the housing market is irrepairably broken and throwing over the pannning restrictions temporarily to permit affordable team self build is the way to get it back on track?

The walls have fallen on Humpty Dumpty.

James.
