Sid Rawle, veteran peace campaigner, free festival organiser, and
former leading light of the London squatters movement, collapsed and
died on a field at Broadoak, near Newnham, Gloucestershire, on the
afternoon of 31st August 2010, aged 64. His death was immediate and
painless, and came right at the end of a very successful Rainbow 2000
Gathering. Sid was known to sensational British tabloid journalists
as 'The King of the Hippies', though it was not a title he ever
claimed for himself. He was born at Exford, Somerset, the son of a
horse-dealer on Exmoor, and was educated at Minehead Comprehensive
(now the West Somerset Community College).
