I'll keep this one shorter, Ilyan.

If we had strict laws against usury, people just wouldn't lend - so surplus 
money would stagnate.

If we tax people's bank balances, they will hold surplus money as cash instead.

So  the 'Progressive Tax on Wealth' that you're suggesting would mean  giving 
the tax authorities powers to make unannounced inspections of  people's homes to 
check what they're hiding under their mattresses.

Far better to just not create the problem in the first place.

Hi Malcolm

That is a lot of words,  but most of the problems you describe are dealt 
with by a Progressive Tax on Wealth.  so that surplus wealth is 
recycled.    In effect what Keynes said, and all the politicians and 
economists should be shot for hiding.

The other disease in the money system would be dealt with by a stricter 
application of the Moslem refusal of usury.

But those are remedies for money problems within Civilisation.     They 
do not get down to the fundamental social disease as shown by Edward 
Carpenter in "Civilisation, Its Cause and Cure."   about 1890.
