Big Community Picnic against the destruction of Porter's Field meadow this Saturday morning (17th March), near the King's Head bridge (Sandy Lane, near the ice rink)..
The start time is actually from 10.30am for those who want to help set up - this is because Thames21 are doing a big River Lea cleanup removing Floating Pennywort from the river and meeting up at that time, and "Save Leyton Marsh!" campaign group want to get them to sign our petition!
We will also have leaflets and flyers to hand out to passers by.
Please bring FOOD TO SHARE - [please note no open fires or barbecues allowed on the marshes, though what damage you'd be likely to do compared with the appalling destruction going on in the enormous fenced-off compound it's difficult to imagine].  please also bring games to play, kites to fly [keep away from the power-cables], musical instruments, games etc. (NLLDC's boules will be there for those who play!)
Presumably the music will have an Irish flavour as it is St Patrick's Day!
Do wear a sustainably-sourced sprig of shamrock!
The picnic will go on as long as people want it to, but hopefully until at least 1pm when the contractors have to stop their destruction work.Katy.
