What does CAP cost UK households?
In my leaflet I quoted £180 per year per household.
Daily Telegraph of 18th July 09 says £380 per h/h per annum.
but I chose to opt for caution , dividing the known outgoings plus admin cost of Rural Payment Agency at £3.9bn in 2009 charged to 20 million UK households.
Now I read the report (Food for Thought" by Dr Lee Rotherham published on the taxpayersalliance.com web site. His report which is an eye opener, claims the cost per h/h p.a. is £395 ( in 2009)

He arrives at this figure by adding £5bn for UK food price rises he attributes to CAP to the £3.9 rpa payments to farmers, plus an item for the increased benefit payments linked by RPI to the increased food cost (which he itemises 1970- to 2004)

His report is an eye opener.
Coming from the taxpayers' alliance he seems unconcerned about the damaging effect of CAP on third world farmers and also doesn't
comment on the regressive effect of 30 million income earners funding CAP and 175,000 landowners and 'surprising' reciipients of CAP such as Unilever, and Nestle, pocketing it. Nor does he emphasise the democratic deficit when most people don't know they are paying it etc.
He does list one item of expenditure by EU costing £millions- spreading awareness of CAP ! Maybe we shouild apply to Strasbourg to fund the leaflet.
