ZAD: A presentation of the autonomous zone and struggle against the airport in North West France

Library Street Social Centre, Elephand & Castle, London Friday 8th March, at 7Grow Heathrow, Sipson, London

 Residents of the Zone A Defendre invite you to a presentation of their 
struggle. The 4000 hectar area of farmland and woods has been threatened
 by the construction of an airport for the past 40 years. 4 years ago, 
locals invited sympathisers to occupy the land. So-called 'Zadistes' 
proceeded to build a colourful range of defenses and living spaces, as 
well as a bakery, collective gardens and everything necessary to live in almost absolute self-sufficiency.
 

 In November 2012, the French prime minister, who originally drew up the
 plans for the airport, ordered the destruction of the ZAD with a force 
of over 1000 policemen. It was due to be over by midday of the second 
day. Several months on, the ZAD is more alive than ever drawing tens of 
thousands from across Europe for demonstrations, gatherings and 
festivals. The struggle continues...
