Dear friends in The United Kingdom,
<http://www.eurotopia.de/pressematerial/Cover_EN.jpg>
[]
we are asking for your help today in promoting
our eurotopia European Communities Directory in
The United Kingdom. Please take a little moment
to think about where you would want to see
eurotopia for sale in The United Kingdom. Is
there any alternative mailorder bookshop or a
website where people can buy interesting,
sustainable things? Do you know a bookstore large
enough to have our English Communities Directory in stock?
Also, what would be a newspaper or newsletter in
The United Kingdom where we could ask for a
report on our book? We can offer free copies for
reviews as well as interesting statistical
information about communities in The United Kingdom.
All we need are email addresses - we will write
emails specified for The United Kingdom and can
hopefully spread the word about living in
community. Since we are promoting eurotopia from
our beautiful ecovillage of Sieben Linden in
Germany, we can't know all distributors in
Europe. So we are really looking forward to your suggestions.
At this point: Thank you for your attention.
Below you find some more details about how
eurotopia is doing and what we would like to archieve.
As you know, we try to include in our book as
many communities, ecovillages, co-housing
ventures and eco-settlements as we can find in
Europe, as well as organisations that seem
connected to that lifestyle. While we don't say
that living in community is the solution to all
problems, we do believe that living in community
creates situations in which collaboration and
communication have a good chance to make moves
towards a sustainable life. Ok, that was a
careful and diplomatic way to say it. It's easier
to state that we think that community is an
adventure - a real, tangible, physical and
emotional adventure. We call it "the great
offline adventure" sometimes because it has
nothing to do with creating online profiles or
buying software or using electronics at all -
it's REAL! And that is not self evident at all in these times we live in.
We have published our new book just before
christmas 2013, as we wrote to you before, and
actually we are getting a great response of
orders - we are selling a lot of books. Most
successful is the German edition, though, and we
really want to reach readers in the whole of
Europe and beyond. We also want to get to know
more communities in other countries, like in The
United Kingdom where you live. I have a little
table in which you can see how many communities
we have listed from each country:

When we take into account the population of each
country, we get an Europe-wide average of 0.4
communities per 1 million Europeans. In the
following table we compare the existing
communities (that we know of) with he number of
communities the country would have applying the
average relation. This is interesting because it
gives us an idea of how many communities your
country could realistically have. We know that we
don't live in a statistical world (and we are
happy about it), but it's a challenge for us to
find a few more communities in the countries that
have no or very little communities compared to their population.

This table is also in our book ("fun with
statistics"). Please note that I send this mail
to all international contacts that we have,
regardless of whether you have been listed in the
last edition of eurotopia or not. Please
understand that we are trying to expand our
distribution while the book is still new - we
won't send emails like this often.
I hope I haven't bored or bothered you and I wish
you only the best in your life in community :-).
