Scarlett Johansson breaks ties with Oxfam
Scarlett Johansson has stepped down as an 
Ambassador for Oxfam because of her new 
relationship with SodaStream, a company which 
operates in the illegal settlement Ma’ale Adumim, 
in the Occupied West Bank. Scarlett Johansson and 
Oxfam faced immense pressure from the Boycott 
Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign who 
demanded that Scarlett Johansson cut her ties 
with SodaStream, or Oxfam cut their ties with 
Scarlett Johansson.

Director of Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Sarah 
Colborne, said: “Scarlett Johansson's decision to 
represent SodaStream clearly violated Oxfam's 
policy of supporting human rights and justice. By 
choosing to represent a company that operates in 
an illegal settlement on stolen Palestinian land, 
she has already suffered major reputational 
damage. And by prioritising SodaStream over 
Oxfam, she has decided to profit from occupation, 
rather than challenge global poverty.

We thank all our supporters who made it clear to 
Oxfam that they needed to break from Scarlett 
Johansson. And we thank Oxfam for supporting the rights of Palestinians.”

Oxfam have issued a statement saying that "Ms. 
Johansson’s role promoting the company SodaStream 
is incompatible with her role as an Oxfam Global Ambassador."

PSC tell BBC, 'Don't do deal with G4S'

2000 BBC viewers and listeners have contacted the 
BBC to urge it not to award G4S with a security 
contract worth £80 million. PSC’s tweets urging 
the BBC not to award G4S the contract were shared hundreds of times.

G4S services Israeli prisons to which Palestinian 
prisoners are illegally transferred in serious 
violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention and 
also, in the case of child prisoners, the United 
Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
There is credible evidence that Palestinian 
prisoners – including children – are routinely 
subjected to violence and torture at G4S serviced 
prisons in Israel and Palestine.

Sarah Colborne, Director of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, said:

‘G4S is well aware of the controversy that 
surrounds its involvement in Israeli prisons. 
Shareholders at G4S’ last AGM ensured that the 
CEO and board were aware that the torture of 
children is ‘absolutely prohibited’ under 
international law and yet is documented as taking 
place at Al Jalame prison in Israel.

For the BBC to associate itself with such a 
company would be deeply damaging to the BBC’s 
reputation. BBC viewers and listeners are telling 
Tony Hall, the BBC’s Director General, not to 
allow the money they pay in licence fees to be used in this way.’

successful, passing important policies to counter 
Israeli racism and to increase PSC’s 
effectiveness. All PSC members have a say in PSC policy.
