Having spoken to someone yesterday that went - 
the John Lilburne birthday event at the weekend 
in London was dry, stuffy and way too academic
Nothing like the man at all - so brilliantly put 
across in NH Brailsford's The Levellers and the English Civil War
The obvious people to speak there - Veterans For 
Peace UK - who have an interest in and some, good 
knowledge of the levellers - were not invited 
despite their interest being specifically brought 
to the attention of the organisers.......

The theme will be Education – the key to Democracy

Speakers for the debate agreed thus far are:
Melissa Benn is a journalist and writer
Kevin Courtney is the Assistant General Secretary 
of the National Union of Teachers
Danny Dorling is a British social geographer and 
is the Halford Mackinder Professor of Geography 
of the School of Geography and the Environment of 
the University of Oxford. He is also a Visiting 
Professor in the Department of Sociology of 
Goldsmiths University of London, a Visiting 
Professor in the School of Social and Community 
Medicine of the University of Bristol, a Visiting 
Fellow at the Institute for Public Policy 
Research, and a Member of the National Advisory 
Panel for the Centre for Labour and Social Studies (CLASS)
Paul Mackney will be chairing the debate

Organisations whose aims are in consonance with 
the aims of the Levellers are invited to book 
space for a stall at the event. A pitch costs £25 
(payable in advance). We don’t provide anything 
other than space but you are welcome to bring a 
gazebo, table and chairs, and display materials.
