>Huge Budget boost for CLTs
>
>Among all the headline-grabbing measures in the
>Chancellor’s Budget unveiled on Wednesday 16th
>March, we were delighted to see the announcement
>of £60 million funding for community-led
>housing, including CLTs, of which £20 million
>will be for community-led developments in the
>South West. We have been lobbying for capital
>funding for CLTs, along with Wessex CLT Project,
>so very much welcome this announcement.
>
>The £60 million will be funded through
>increased Stamp Duty Land Tax rates on
>additional residential properties, which will be
>introduced next month. The Budget states that
>the funding is intended to be for CLTs and
>community-led housing developments in rural and
>coastal communities where the impact of second home is particularly acute.

>We are currently liaising with Government and

>The Urban CLT movement goes from strength to strength
>
>The National CLT Conference also marked the
>announcement of the second round of Urban CLTs
>supported through the Urban CLT Project. A total
>of 20 Urban CLTs from across the country have
>now been given grants of £10,000 each to help
>them on their journey. This is part of a wider
>project, funded by the Oak Foundation, to
>kick-start a CLT movement in our cities.
>
>A diverse range of projects have been supported
>in this year’s round. That includes CLTs in
>coastal towns trying to moderate the damaging
>effects of gentrification, a small project for
>the single homeless in a county town, a major
>initiative based on a citywide Neighbourhood
>Plan, a project for older people that has
>emerged out of a Big Local initiative, and a
>regional city-wide umbrella CLT working with the
>city council to provide community-led housing

>We’re looking forwards to working with you over the coming year.
>Victory for CLTs with exemption from 1% rent cut
>
>On the eve of the National CLT Conference in
>Westminster we heard we had been victorious in
>securing a one year respite from the 1% rent
>cut, the measure announced by Government in the
>summer Budget in July last year.
>
>The 1% rent cut, if implemented for CLTs, would
>have affected CLTs that are registered with the
>Homes and Communities Agency as Registered
>Providers. In some cases, the impact would have
>been disastrous: one CLT would have been insolvent within 3 years.
>
>We’ve been lobbying hard for an
>‘exception’ to the rent cut to be made for
>CLTs in the Welfare Reform and Work Bill. On
>January 27th we heard we had been successful and
>that CLTs have been granted a one year exception
>to the 1% rent cut. We are now lobbying for an
>exception for the remaining 3 years. For more

Covetousnesse be gon: Come, Truth and Love arise.

Then England sit in rest; Thy sorrows will have end;
