An £8.95million mansion owned by John Lennon is still for sale after eight months – despite a near-£5million drop in price.

The six-bedroom pile in Surrey – where the late Beatle wrote some of the band's biggest hits in the 1960s – was valued at £13.75million in 2012.

The singer lived in the luxury home from 1964-1968 and wrote a number of tracks for The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

The mansion, in the exclusive St George’s Hill estate in Weybridge , was put back on the market in August last year.

The impressive mansion, which features an indoor swimming pool and sauna complex, had a guide price of £8.95 million.

Eight months on and the home remains on the market at the same price.

Estate agent Knight Frank says it is a “rare opportunity” to buy the home formerly owned by John Lennon set in “about 1.5 acres of exquisite gardens”.

The property is no stranger to being put on the market.

In August 2012 Knight Frank put a huge and ultimately off putting £13.75 million price tag on the mansion.

Yet back in 2006 the property was valued at £5.95 million and sold early in 2007 for £5.8 million.

This is all a far cry from the £20,000 Lennon paid for the house in July 1964.

The superstar musician spent four years at St George’s Hill and his fellow Beatles were all regular visitors.

One fan recalled visiting the house as a teenager with her friends.

Carole Millea, a huge Beatles fan, lived in Byfleet and used to cycle over to Weybridge on long summer days.

“John was just a really nice guy and very laid back about us being there,” said Mrs Millea, now a grandmother living in Emsworth, Hampshire.
