For all of you who love and care about Gerald Miles, our inspirational farmer from Wales
I’m reaching out with something urgent and very close to the heart.
You may know Gerald, and the deep care he’s poured into Caerhys Organic Farm over the years
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001fcf3
—his commitment to the land, to organic farming, to the community that’s grown around it. He’s held firm in protecting the farm from private sale or development, even when the pressure was immense.
Now, he’s facing a heartbreaking situation. After a painful legal battle, the court has ruled that Gerald must sell the farm. His family have been urging him to sell, and he’s refused—because he knows what this land means, not just to him but to so many of us. That refusal has come at great personal cost. He’s now standing alone, and the sale is imminent.
But there is hope.
We want to do everything we can, right now, to bring Caerhys into community ownership—to protect it for the future, as a shared space for food, nature, learning, and belonging. It can be done. It’s been done before through the Fordhall Community Land Initiative, and we’re exploring how to use the same legal route to make it happen here.
The only problem is: we have almost no time, and no resources.
So we’re pulling together an emergency campaign this week, and calling in every favour, every bit of support, and every friend who’s ever been moved by what Caerhys stands for.
Here’s what we need urgently:
1. A videographer, to film and share Gerald’s story this week
2. Campaign support – social media, PR, writing, planning, anything
3. Help spreading the word to people who know and love the farm and Gerald
And soon, we’ll need funding – through donations and a community share offer (we’ll share more details as soon as they’re ready)
This is a big ask, I know. But if there’s ever been a moment for the community to gather, it’s now.
Let’s show Gerald that he’s not standing alone.
If you have a spare 30 minutes to join the call to brainstorm and pool resources to see how we can support Gerald and the Farm, please join me (and hopefully some other willing hearts) tomorrow at 9:30am on this link:
