The Institute of Employment Rights has published a briefing on the Children and Families Bill, which includes measures such as shared parental leave, an extended right to flexible working and time off for antenatal appointments.

The investigation into the collapse of HBOS has provided yet more strong evidence that protection for whistleblowers, and a readiness of employers to listen to their workers, could avert disaster in the future. Unfortunately, the Coalition are moving in the opposite direction.

Three new publications, forthcoming events and resources 

You may have noticed that over the past few months the Institute of Employment Rights has had a lot to promote. 

In February, we released what became one of our bestselling publications  <http://www.ier.org.uk/publications/justice-deferred-critical-guide-coalitions-employment-tribunal-reforms> Justice deferred: a critical guide to the Coalition's employment tribunals, followed by a related book of essays by some of the UK's top law experts  <http://www.ier.org.uk/publications/access-justice-employment-disputes-surveying-terrain> Access to justice in employment disputes: surveying the terrain in May; and now you can order June's release  <http://www.ier.org.uk/publications/political-attack-workplace-representation-legal-response> The political attack on workplace representation - a legal response, which is the latest offering from renowned Professor of Public Law, and President of the IER, Keith Ewing; and Oxford lecturer in law Alan Bogg.

We are excited about the positive feedback we have received for these publications, from critics and readers alike, and intend to keep up the momentum with our forthcoming events on Health and Safety this  <http://www.ier.org.uk/events/health-and-safety-work> June and  <http://www.ier.org.uk/events/health-and-safety-work-0> July.

In the coming weeks we will also be providing a comprehensive resource on the Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Act, which has undermined workers' right in several areas and which was granted Royal Assent at the end of April.

Workers around the world are suffering from and struggling against the impact of austerity measures imposed on them by governments, financial bodies and employers. At the same time, the rights of trade unions to represent their members and negotiate collective agreements are under attack around the globe.

Two people who understand these problems more than most and who are tasked with protecting workers and promoting an alternative agenda are the general secretaries of the trade union centres in Britain and at the international level.

Support the Haldane Society campaign against Legal Aid cuts

Legal Aid cuts brought in on April 2013 were followed immediately by proposals by the Ministry of Justice for further slashes. The Haldane Society has released a Resolution, consultation response and standard campaign letter for those opposed to further cuts to have their voices heard.
