public sector unions and how best to address the changes.   Dr. Lydia Hayes,
Cardiff University, the public sector, gender and employment rights; Craig
Peel, Thompsons Solicitors, challenging low pay in the care sector. Noel
Hulse, NUT, the education sector and employment rights.  Lynn Collins, TUC

Public sector trade unions are under attack. So too are the living standards
of the workers they represent. Such attacks are unnecessary and unwarranted
and have severe impact on the services provided. Health and education
disputes are currently in the spotlight, highlighting the inherent problems
of public sector cuts and government interference.

 

Since the banking crisis of 2008 Coalition and Conservative governments have
systematically inflicted austerity measures on public sector workers -hence
the desire to weaken their trade unions. Cuts in pay, pension provision,
terms and conditions of employment and public services have been imposed -
reducing the living standards of millions of citizens at the same time as
reducing the size of the state - the public sector.

 

At this conference expert speakers from trade unions, academia and the legal
profession will provide the latest information on government proposals,
legislative changes and case law precedents likely to impact on public
sector unions and their members.
