Transport Secretary Chris Grayling is being urged to resign today <https://ier.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f121e48a8bb6d3101590c12d3&id=d6f76997e9&e=71131c031b> , after 12 days of serious disruption on the railways.
RMT General Secretary Mick Cash accused the Minister and train company bosses of "hiding" during the crisis, leaving railway staff to bear the brunt of the fallout.
Thousands of trains have been cancelled, part-cancelled or delayed in Manchester and London since Sunday 20 May, when major timetable alterations came into force, despite the fact the changes had been planned for a year.
Passenger groups pointed the finger squarely at Grayling, with some blaming the Department for Transport of prioritising the cheapest bid over the quality of the service.
Cash said: "It is absolutely disgusting that those responsible for the carnage on our railways over the past 12 days - Chris Grayling and his private train company bosses - have dived for cover rather than face the passengers they have hung out to dry.
"Meanwhile my members, working at the sharp end of the cancelled and delayed services, are bearing the brunt of the public anger without a shred of support from Govia, Arriva or the Department for Transport.
"Not only is Chris Grayling incompetent and not fit to run a railway but he is a coward as well, leaving RMT members to take the flack for failed policies that are his responsibility."
Grayling was also criticised by politicians, including Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham after Northern rail lines were severely affected. Grayling has agreed to meet with MPs whose constituents have been affected for just 90 minutes on Monday, while the Transport Committee will also meet after the weekend to consider a full parliamentary inquiry.

Don't forget to check out our Conservative Timeline, which tracks the developments and impact of employment law and trade union rights throughout the Tories' term.
This week: General Secretary Frances O'Grady has met foreign leaders more times than Theresa May since she became Prime Minister in 2016.
Meanwhile, the government has been accused of trying to bury statistics showing that soldiers are leaving the army due to low pay by releasing them just before parliamentary recess. Satisfaction with wages is now at its lowest point after the public sector pay cap saw army incomes fall for seven years in a row.

Labour Law Highlights 2017: £8
Edited by Rebecca Tuck
Catch up with the most important case law developments in 2017 in the latest of our popular Labour Law Highlights series.
In this year’s Labour Law Highlights, a team of barristers from Old Square Chambers returns to assess how each of these events has impacted upon case law in the last 12 months, including clarification from the courts on the requirements of the Trade Union Act in practice, the flurry of tribunal hearings regarding ‘gig’ workers, and further decisions on the rights of workers required to take "sleep-in" shifts. In each case, they provide commentary on the potential wider implications of tribunal decisions.
