Jeremy Corbyn adopts IER proposals


At TUC 2019, the Institute of Employment Rights was proud to witness a great many of the recommendations in our new  <https://ier.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f121e48a8bb6d3101590c12d3&id=8f00a08c2c&e=71131c031b> Guide to a progressive Industrial Relations Bill adopted by the Labour Party.

In his address to Congress, Jeremy Corbyn thanked the IER for its advice, while announcing several key IER proposals would be taken forward by the Party, including:

*	The establishment of a Ministry of Labour (renamed a Ministry of Employment Rights)
*	The restoration of sectoral collective bargaining
*	The repeal of the Trade Union Act 2016
*	Real Living Wage
*	Equal rights for all workers from day one
*	Ban on zero-hour contracts
*	An independent Labour Inspectorate (renamed a Workers' Protection Agency)
*	Workers on company boards

Our fringe: A Ministry of Labour - What can it deliver for working people?


On Sunday 08 September 2019, we held out fringe meeting A Ministry of Labour - What can it deliver for working people? at Brighton's Old Ship Hotel.

Speakers Laura Pidcock, Shadow Minister for Employment Rights; Tim Roache, General Secretary of GMB; Mark Serwotka, General Secretary of PCS; Dave Ward, General Secretary of CWU; and Howard Beckett, Assistant General Secretary of Unite addressed a packed house, each describing the need for and benefits of workers' rights reform.

IER Chair receives peership


Congratulations to our Chair John Hendy QC on his receipt of a peership from Jeremy Corbyn during TUC 2019 last week.

A Barrister for Old Square Chambers and a celebrated trade union lawyers, we're delighted to hear that John will be joined in the House of Lords by former General Secretary of the NUT Christine Blower.
