Outsourced workers win fight to rejoin NHS
An NHS Trust has agreed to in-house a thousand staff three decades after the services they work for were privatised in what has been described as a "major victory" for the trade union movement.
Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust made the decision after three months of successful industrial action by members of the United Voices of the World (UVW) union.
Cleaners, caterers and porters initially went on strike in November 2019 to win the London Living Wage. When the employer agreed the new rate of pay, the workers felt emboldened to ask for equal terms and conditions to their colleagues employed by the NHS. Last week, the Trust's board agreed to bring them back in-house.
