This event, ran in partnership with Liverpool University, will be discussing what Brexit will mean for Health and Safety at work in 2020.
About this event
What might the future of health and safety law look like now that the UK has left the EU? At this conference, an expert panel of academics, lawyers and campaigners will consider the dangers UK workers currently face, whether regulations may be influenced by future international Free Trade Agreements, and how the UK matches up to international standards when it comes to health and safety.
This conference coincides with the release of a new IER publication by Professor David Whyte and Andrew Moretta, which benchmarks health and safety regulations in the UK to the fundamental standards laid out by the International Labour Organization (ILO). The authors will present their findings and take questions from delegates.
Joining them on the panel, Thompsons Solicitors will provide an update on recent and contemporaneous health and safety claims going through the courts; union leaders will offer a view from the shop floor, particularly in relation to precarious working arrangements; the Hazards Campaign will expand on the success of its recent Manifesto; and speakers will explore how the dilution of rights acquired through EU Directives might impact on the safety of workers.
This event is being ran in partnership with Liverpool University.
Confirmed speakers:
Rob Miguel, Research dept. Unite National H&S Adviser – Unions asbestos campaign
Robert Baughan, UNISON - Precarious working in the care sector
Prof David Whyte & Andrew Moretta, Univserity of Liverpool - UK Compliance with International Health and Safety Standards After Brexit
Daniel Shears, GMB - GMB H&S campaign in 2020
