Places are booking up fast at this week's special expert events on two timely topics: redundancy, including fire and rehire; and anti-union action by both employers and by the State.

Hear from a victim of the SpyCops scandal

The Mitting inquiry into the infiltration of left-wing groups, including trade unions, began taking oral evidence in November 2020. <https://www.ier.org.uk/an-easy-guide-to-the-undercover-policing-spycops-inquiry/> The IER is closely following the inquiry, which has already heard that undercover agents have been deployed across law-abiding organisations for decades and have not uncovered criminal conduct that would justify their presence. These agents crossed multiple legal and moral boundaries, including by establishing personal relationships and fathering children under their assumed identity. There is also evidence to suggest they behaved as agents provocateurs, trying to incite discord within unions to destablise the movemnet, and even attempting to pressure members into committing crimes.

We are proud to present a victim of the SpyCops scandal at our <https://tinyurl.com/IER-ResistAntiUnion> Resisting anti-union activity; resisting anti-worker employers event on Tuesday 02 March 2021 from 7pm. The Mitting inquiry witness, who has asked to remain anonymous, will be joined by Howard Beckett of Unite to speak on his union's resistance to anti-union activity. Other guests speaking on their experiences of oppression and the right to take industrial action will be confirmed this week.

IER and Covid-19

Due to the rapid spread of the coronavirus disease and the need to keep our staff, supporters and speakers safe, IER have decided to postpone all forthcoming IER events and meetings until further notice, including both Health and safety at work after Brexit conferences in Liverpool and London, the IER Executive Committee, IER AGM and our joint event with the Campaign for Trade Union Freedom on 6th June.

IER staff will continue to work, but remotely from home. We will answer emails, produce publications and circulate our weekly News Briefs and other on-line information. However, phone calls to the office or mail sent by post will not receive immediate attention.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and wish you all best wishes during this difficult time.
