IER & CTUF Labour Party fringe meeting in Liverpool
After a year where fire and rehire, the P&O scandal and restrictive anti-union legislation hit the headlines, the IER looks back at the lessons from the Pentonville 5, 50 years ago this summer.
The event will hear from a range of speakers about the attacks on trade union freedoms, employment rights and the right to strike. With a new PM in Downing Street, seemingly intent on ripping up more of our rights, it couldn’t be a more opportune time to have this discussion.

Interest rates rise for seventh time in a row – to 2.25%
The rate has been lifted by half a percentage point from 1.75% and takes borrowing costs to their highest levels since 2008. Interest rates have been rising since last December as inflation has risen to its highest level in four decades.

Leaders from trade unions, three Global Union Federations, and allied organizations representing 27 countries in Africa, Latin America, and Asia Pacific will gather in Nairobi, Kenya, in mid-October to launch a new trade union initiative to promote a “public pathway” approach to a just energy transition in the Global South
