TUC Congress Special

TUC Congress takes place this week, from Tuesday the 18th to Thursday the 20th October, in Brighton. This year’s event was cancelled in September in the wake of the death of Queen Elizabeth II, and has been re-arranged to take place over three days in Brighton.
The Institute has traditionally held a big fringe meeting at TUC Congress, where we signal our priorities for the year. This year, the title of our fringe, held alongside the Campaign for Trade Union Freedom, is ’50 years after The Pentonville 5 – Now is the time for a New Deal for Workers’, reflecting the work the Institute has done to highlight the curtailing of workers’ rights and trade union freedoms, alongside a positive vision for an alternative, a new deal for workers.
The meeting, which features a brilliant platform of speakers, including the RMT’s Mick Lynch, will be held on Tuesday 18th October at 6.30 at the Old Ship Hotel Brighton.
We also have a TUC hub page, where you can find all the information you need relating to the IER’s presence at Congress, including where to find us – and a host of documents that will be useful both to delegates and the wider movement. You can also find details of Cad Jones' not-to-be-missed retirement social. You can find all that here.

IER Briefing: A New Deal for Workers

The Covid-19 pandemic, the economic downturn that followed, and the current cost of living crisis has revealed in sombre terms the true nature of British society and the huge inequalities which characterise it. Read our 4-page introduction to what a New Deal for Workers might look like, and why we so desperately need a manifesto for recovery.
