Employment Law Update 2023
It’s time again for the most popular Institute of Employment Rights conference of the year, at which we bring together leading lawyers, academics and campaigners from across the UK to update delegates on developments in labour law over the previous 12 months and to suggest how workers can be better protected.
After over a decade of austerity, recent industrial hostility from employers like P&O, and as the cost-of-living crisis comes down to bite on the real terms value of workers’ wages, unions are ramping up collective action in order to regain previous levels of rights and wages for their members. Our experts from Thompsons Solicitors will be revisiting key cases on industrial and collective issues to demonstrate to delegates where the legal pitfalls and opportunities currently are.
With a raft of recent legislation aimed at making industrial action and demonstrations more difficult, and with increased powers to fine unions through the Certification Officer, it is clear there are existential threats towards the trade union movement building. Minimum service levels are the most recent authoritarian laws to be posed, but should not be seen in isolation. Both Sarah Woolley from the Bakers Union (BFAWU) and Professor Keith Ewing of King’s College London, will be analysing how the trade union movement may respond to such threats.
As well as these important topics, our experts will discuss a wide range of burning issues from modern employment tribunals to key cases on religion and belief.
Please be aware our Employment Law Updates historically sell out very quickly – book your seat in good time to avoid disappointment.
