The number of workers who are members of trade unions has <a href="https://www.ier.org.uk/news/trade-union-membership-continues-growth-into-third-year/" style="mso-line-height-rule: exactly;-ms-text-size-adjust: 100%;-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;color: #007C89;font-weight: normal;text-decoration: underline;">grown for the third year running</a>, increasing by nearly 100,000 people.<br>

Official figures from the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy found there are now 91,000 more trade union members than there were at the same time last year.<br>
<br>
Women are driving the increase, now accounting for nearly half of all trade unionists at 3.69 million of a total 6.44 million trade union members.<br>
<br>
Although these figures do not cover the period of the Coronavirus crisis, TUC General Secretary, Frances O'Grady, said interest in trade unions has only increased through the pandemic.

Indeed, the trade unions have won numerous successes during the pandemic, including pushing for the establishment of the furlough scheme.<br>
