Hi everyone,

We remind you this is the list for discussing civil society content
for the WSIS.

Before starting, the coordinators of this group (Sally Burch and Bill
McIver) want to make a quick consultation on process. Please
answer the questions below within 24 hours.

A few weeks ago we circulated a proposal for working on
responses to the document produced by the WSIS, last March, for
which a deadline of May 30 has been fixed by the Bureau.

In our proposal, thematic caucuses and working groups were
encouraged to produce their specific comments on the document,
during April, and then during May we would work on a consensus
document to meet the May 30 deadline. Following that, we
proposed to work on our own civil society document before the 3rd
Prepcom, as was agreed at the civil society plenary in Geneva.

We know some caucuses have been working on content, but do
not have a clear idea how many or which.

The web tool for editing the documents is now almost ready
(details later). However, before looking at how we should work, we
want to make a quick consultation. Time is running late and we
have less than three weeks to produce our comments on the
document. Does it make sense, at this stage, to produce a single
document, or should we rather focus on producing caucus
documents?

If we produce a single document, we will need all the caucus inputs
this week and then a small team of, say, 4-5 people with sufficient
time to focus on editing next week. This may not be realistic.

So please answer the following questions:

1) Which caucus are you representing? Has your caucus worked
on content since Prepcom 2 and/or are you planning to before the
May 30 deadline? Would you be able to have your input ready
before next Monday?

2) Do you consider we should give priority to drawing up a common
document at this stage, or should we give more time to the
caucuses to produce their own statements?

3) Are you willing to be on the editing team next week if we decide
to go ahead with the common document?

4) Do you agree that, whatever modality the official process takes,
after May we should focus on producing our own common civil
society document (not necessarily restricted to the terms of the
official documents?

Thanks,

Sally Burch
