UNITED NATIONS ESTABLISHES HUMAN RIGHTS FAX HOTLINE IN GENEVA
The High Commissioner for Human Rights, Jose Ayala Lasso, has
established a Human Rights Fax Hot Line in Geneva, a 24-hour fax
line for victims of human rights violations, their relatives and
non-governmental organizations. This will allow the UN Centre for
Human Rights in Geneva to monitor and react rapidly to human
rights emergencies, such as the crisis in Rwanda. The Hot Line
Fax number is (41-22) 917-0092. The Centre for Human Rights will
also create a Human Rights Database to gather information for use
by special rapporteurs who are responsible for investigating
questions such as religious intolerance, torture, racism and
freedom of expression. The database will be accessible by modem
to human rights rapporteurs and experts worldwide.
