ANKARA, July 11 (AFP) - Turkish police Saturday detained seven
Austrian tourists attending a human rights protest here, Turkey's
Human Rights Association (IHD) said.
The Austrians were detained as they were filming and
photographing scores of members of the IHD protesting against the
country's alleged human rights violations in Ankara's central
Kizilay district, IHD officials said.
The police said they had detained the four women and three men
because they had no prior permission to record the protest,
according to the officials.
The seven were being questioned at the police department's
foreigners section, the Anatolia news agency said.
The IHD released a press statement denouncing the detentions and
urging immediate release of the Austrians.
The IHD holds weekly protests at Kizilay square on Saturdays.
