Turkey/DHKP-C: Prisoners rise up, guards taken hostage

   ANKARA, July 20 (AFP) - A group of inmates at a prison here were
Tuesday holding eight guards hostage, the Anatolia news agency
reported.

   The reason for the hostage-taking was not immediately clear.  
   The action began in a wing of the prison housing members of the
extreme-left Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP- C),
an outlawed Marxist group, the agency said.

   According to reports, the prisoners broke the windows of their ward
and barricaded the doors using beds.
   Anatolia said security measures were beefed up around the
prison. Anxious relatives of the inmates were gathering outside the
building.
