Researcher on Science and Militarism
Scientists for Global Responsibility

40% full-time equivalent (15 hours/week); £24,648 pro rata
6-month contract, with the possibility of extension

Scientists for Global Responsibility (SGR) is seeking a researcher to work
on its new project, 'Reforming the Ministry of Defence's science and
technology programmes'.

SGR is a small but influential research and campaign organisation that
promotes science, design and technology that contribute to peace,
social justice, and environmental sustainability. It has a membership of
about 1000 natural and social scientists, engineers, IT professionals and
architects.

SGR is seeking a self-motivated and conscientious individual to research
government science and technology programmes that involve the Ministry
of Defence, and to help to formulate proposals for research and
development that avoid militarism, drawing on concepts such as sustainable
security and non-offensive defence. This will build on SGR's previous work
in this area, including the reports, 'Soldiers in the Laboratory' and
'Behind Closed Doors'.

The successful candidate will initially work from home. S/he will report
to the Executive Director, Stuart Parkinson, who is based in Lancaster,
UK. SGR plans to relocate its administrative office to Lancaster during
the course of the next year. Hence, applicants living within reasonable
travelling distance of Lancaster are especially encouraged to apply.
