1. With material for the next SGR Newsletter currently being edited,
we're publishing the first article online in advance - see below.

Please do pass it on to any interested contacts

* The UK's role in nuclear proliferation: then and now

Dr David Lowry examines the historical role of Britain's civilian
nuclear exports in the weapons programmes of countries like North Korea,
and fears that the latest government initiatives will lead to history
repeating itself.

2. SGR's 2012-2013 Annual Report is now available online at:

to join us!

3. The long awaited 'Trident Alternatives Review' is now online:
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/trident-alternatives-review

This is the document, published by the Cabinet Office, but driven by Lib
Dem ministers, on whether the UK could deploy 'lesser' nuclear weapons
options following the retirement of the current Trident system.

With media attention now focused on this issue, this is an opportunity
to highlight the catastrophic human and environmental effects should
Trident ever be used - as discussed in this recent SGR briefing:
http://www.sgr.org.uk/resources/climatic-impacts-and-humanitarian-problems-use-uks-nuclear-weapons

Please do help to publicise the SGR briefing. If you are on Facebook or
Twitter, please 'like' or 'retweet' our posts on this. Also, please
include the link in comments you make on online articles.

Sadly, a lot of people still do not realise just how awful these weapons
are...
