* New SGR briefing:
Scientists Behaving Responsibly: should science walk the talk on climate
breakdown?

In this briefing, Andrew Simms examines the extent to which scientists and
engineers are changing their lifestyles to become more environmentally
friendly. He highlights the importance of behaviour change across society to
help tackle the climate crisis, and the potential of scientists and engineers
to act as role models for such change.

* Presentations from SGR's Responsible Science conference 2019

- Global heating and climate catastrophe

Prof Bill McGuire, University College London, argues that mainstream climate
science reports downplay the scale of the threats, especially from sea-level
rise, extreme heat, shutdown of the Gulf Stream, and increased seismic
activity.

- Hope from despair: transforming delusion into action on climate change

Prof Kevin Anderson, Manchester University, argues that to meet the Paris
climate targets we need to put equity at the heart of plans to rapidly reduce
carbon emissions.

- Environmental behaviour change: dealing with four key challenges

Prof Lorraine Whitmarsh, Cardiff University, argues that to encourage the
radical behaviour change needed to tackle the climate crisis, we need a range
of well-timed interventions. She also notes that climate scientists need to
'walk the talk' too.

* Science4Society Week 2020 - reminder of competition

The S4S Week 2020 competition for students is online and the theme this year
is pollution and waste in its many forms - TRASH 'Take Responsibility and Show
How'. Lesson plans, activities and ideas for the competition are available on
the website.
