1.  The carbon footprint of the EU's military sectors

We will be launching a new report examining the carbon footprint of the
military sectors within the European Union. Authors, Stuart Parkinson, SGR,
and Linsey Cottrell, CEOBS, will summarise the key findings. The study was
commissioned by The Left group in the European Parliament.

2. Military v climate spending - upcoming SGR presentation

In November 2020, the UK government announced a huge increase in military
spending, a modest increase in climate change spending, and an enormous cut to
the overseas aid budget. Dr Stuart Parkinson, SGR, looks at the implications
for Britain's effort to tackle the climate crisis.

3. Scientists welcome entry into force of nuclear weapons ban treaty

Scientists for Global Responsibility (SGR) welcomes the entry into force of
the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons on 22nd January.

4. Science4Society Week 2021 (6 - 14 March)

S4S Week provides free STEM activities and teaching materials - without
funding from the fossil fuel or arms industries.

4a. Family science workshops - Climate kitchen/ Make your own handwash

Bryony Maskell, SGR, is running two online workshops at the Malvern Festival
of Ideas:

- Do you know the environmental impact of washing your hands?
  (including making your own handwash!)

- Climate Kitchen! Do you know the impact of your diet?
