Social Economy through Art/ Media/ Design
This year the focus of the conference will be on co-op/community
groups in South East London and "media-centric" groups from around
London, looking at taking the social economy to the next level of
networking, communication and visibility. Speakers will be coming from
various groups, including SELEDA, the Hub, Deptford Arts Network and
Sanford Housing Co-op, attempting to demonstrate how the social
economy can support the arts and how art/ media can progress the
social economy. There will be workshops running at the same time,
which will show those interested, how to set up their own projects,
looking at incorporation, financing and pitfalls.
VENUE: Open Arts Platform, The Old Seager Distillery, Brookmill Road,
Deptford, London, SE8 4JT.
DATE: Saturday, 29 October 2005

So Wotz Alternative Housing?
Alternative Housing is looking at applying these ideas to one of our
basic needs, shelter. Housing which centres around the dynamic
principles of self-help, independence and social change. Examples vary
but include co-ops, squats and co-housing. Alternative housing is the
vision of sustainable, grassroot communities free from landlords,
interference and powerlessness; and dynamic enough to be involved in
promoting wider social change.
