Palestinian President: An end to occupation will bring peace to Israel

In a press conference in Turkey on Tuesday, the Palestinian President,
Mahmoud Abbas, stated that Israel will have peace if the state signs a
peace agreement with the Palestinian people, and ends the occupation
of Palestinian land.

"If that is achieved, there will be no more wars and antagonism will
come to an end and the people of the region will have security and
stability," said Abbas, during the joint press conference with the
Israeli President Shimon Peres and the Turkish President Abdullah Gul.

The three met during the seventh Ankara Economic Forum, held in the
Turkish city of Ankara.

Abbas' statements come in the midst of a series of statements from
both the Palestinian and Israeli sides downplaying the importance of
the upcoming summit in Annapolis, in the U.S.

The three presidents agreed during the weekend's economic summit to
establish a joint `industrial zone' in the West Bank, a move which
many Palestinian leftists have criticized as a way for foreign powers
to exploit cheap labor from Palestinians without truly developing the
Palestinian economy.

Israels Abuse of Bedouin Rights: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs
writes on their website that the Bedouin enjoy a higher standard of
living than elsewhere in the Middle East. But countless Bedouin homes
and villagers have been destroyed by Israel. The government's
'township' policy, displacing Bedouin into townships so they can be
easily managed, luring them with electricity and water and cheap
housing so they can be put in one place, kept under control, is what
the government refers to as integration. The Bedouin are forced to
choose between constant demolition of their houses and harassment by
settlers and army, or being moved from the land they live upon to
townships to cease practicing their culture and to conform to Israeli
society.
