(1) This mailout contains the programme for the scythe and grassland
workshops on 13 June; and the Scythe Festival on 14 June, pasted in
below, or in the attached PDF.
The workshops are a unique opportunity to meet and talk to virtually
all the scythe instructors in Britain, and learn more about all
aspects of scythe use and grass management. The festival on Sunday
is attended by over 1500 people.

Scythe Festival 2009 Programme of Courses and Events
Saturday 13 June
9 am until 1.30 pm. There will be two sets of courses taking place,
one for beginners and the other for improvers.
From 2.30 until 7.30. A choice of workshops, scheduled as follows
(though possibly subject to some shifting around).

2.30 to 4 Kids mowing Peening experts’ demo
3.0 to 4.30 Grass management
4.30- 6 Snath making Peening,repair etc
5 to 6.30 Haymaking
6.30 - 7.30 Scything grains Botany Wildflower seeds Peening,
7.30 supper and then entertainment

Mowing Peening Haymaking:
Phil Batten, Simon Damant, Simon Fairlie, Gill Hardstone,
Alastair Inglis, Ray Lister, Deano Martin,
Plus
Steve Tomlin (snathmaking); John Letts (grains); Richard Brown (of
Emorsgate Seeds)
and special guest from the Austrian Scythe Association (Sensen Verein)
Ms Christiane Lechner, who teaches scything and yoga.
Scythe Programme for the Festival on Sunday 14 June
6 am Early Bird’s Mow (very voluntary)
9 am to 11 am. Possibly some hay turning from previous day.
11.30 - 12.30 Heats
12.30 to 1.30 Team Mowing/ Scythe v Strimmer
2.15 to 3.15 Heats
4 pm Championship 5m x 5 m 16 competitors (including 4 best women)
6.00 prize-giving.

To Register for the Weekend
The fee for the weekend is £55. this includes three meals on Saturday
and soup on Friday night if you arrive then, plus entry on Sunday
(which is £5). Kids interested in mowing can attend the course free..
