COPY OF MY LETTER IN TODAY’S GUARDIAN
Julian Glover rightly draws attention to the coyness
of receivers of EU subsidy cheques in UK
under the Common Agricultural Policy.
(The Silence on EU Subsidies)
At this time of cuts in public spending there is some £3.9billion disbursed in UK
under this regime for which there is no proposal to make savings.
Individuals receive CAP cheques each year , in many
instances, for amounts of hundreds of thousands of pounds.
Many of the members of both houses of Parliament , as landowners receive
annual CAP payments greatly in excess of their salary/expenses).

PLEASE SEND The
following letter to your MP. :
Dear (Your M,P.) CAP benefits to M.P.s Dec 10
You will know that Mr Richard Drax , M.P.,
is a beneficiary of the Drax Estates and that they received £417,000 in 2009 as CAP payment. No doubt this amount has been increased
since.
Many members of each House of Parliament are landowners and receive
annual CAP cheques some of them in excess
of their official salary /expenses.
It is the declared policy of
EU to have these payments made public- hence the Defra web site with
that information. However it is not easy
to relate the information on claimants there,
which are often companies, to M.P.’s .
Debates and votes in parliament on money matters,
agriculture, EU and cuts in public expenditure
may be coloured by M.P.’s receipts of such cheques which are dependent
on CAP regime which takes up some 45% of the EU budget.
I hope you see the need for a register of members receipts
of CAP benefits which is accessible to
all people. .
Yours faithfully,
Name and address.
