The ceiling for payments to US farmers under the US Farm Act of 2008 is $40,000,(£25,000) to any one individual .

The US Farm Act is endlessly discussed in the US media, criticised , berated , and debated in Congress but loved by 'Pork Barrel' politicians whose campaigns it is alleged to fund.

It works out on average at some £9,000 per payout. In UK the CAP works out at an average of £19,428 per payout.
(of course the average is skewed esp in UK by big payouts to corporations like the £82milllion to British Sugar. but the comparison is instructive )
Even in US the media complain of the secrecy surrounding the negotiations.
