A Growing Change. To
mark international food sovereignty month, Organiclea are organising a
public event at the Hornbeam café in Walthamstow on the 22nd
October. Join us to debate how far the recent resurgence of interest in
local food has translated to substantive changes in the food system,
and what the most significant obstacles are in the struggle for a
sustainable and just food system in the UK. We
will be joined by two speakers who will share their perspectives and
lead the debate. Both are experienced producers and food rights
activists from London and Dorset who have been practically involved in small-scale producer’s movements for many years. Ru
Litherland: has been working as a grower and horticultural trainer in
community food projects for over 10 years. Currently a grower at with
the Organiclea workers cooperative, based at their Hawkwood growing site
in Chingford. Jyoti Fernandes: runs a small farm in Dorset
and has been actively campaigning on issues affecting small producers
and new entrants to agriculture for many years. She is a member of the
peasant evolution producers co-operative. The
evening will also provide an opportunity to learn more about movements
working to build resilient and just food systems in the local area and
at the national level, as well as ways in which you can get involved. Join us on the 22nd October for presentations and discussion between 7 – 10 at the Hornbeam café. There will be hot soup and cold drinks available. Hornbeam Café, 458 Hoe St, Walthamstow, E17 9AH.
