Writer Will Self to visit library squatters

Saturday, 20 October 2012

AUTHOR and journalist Will Self will be coming to the former Friern Barnet Library – which is currently being run by squatters – to sign copies of his new book Umbrella.

Self, who was nominated for the Man Booker prize for the work, lost out on Monday evening to Bring Up The Bodies by Hilary Mantel – her second win in four years.

He will be at the library, in Friern Barnet Road, on November 14. Umbrella, which is written without chapters and paragraph marks, is set around Friern Barnet.

The former library, which is now being run as the Friern Barnet People's Library, was reopened by community activists last month in protest at Barnet Council's decision to shut it earlier this year.
