Twelve months on from <http://vimeo.com/38035802>the brutal eviction
of the Occupy LSX camp outside St Paul's Cathedral in the City of
London we can mark progress by virtue of what Occupy spawned. Occupy
brought together a wide variety of activists, concerned citizens and
academics seeking to build a better world - those people haven't gone
away but are working in groups and across international borders,
sharing ideas while promoting awareness of issues among a wider
audience. Occupy has transformed economic and social debate.

Last October,
<http://www.freecriticalthinking.org/daily-pickings/276-bank-of-england-director-fails-to-convince>Andy
Haldane, Director of the Bank of England for Financial Stability,
spoke at one of the New Putney Debates declaring "Occupy was right!"
Last summer the International Monetary Fund produced a paper,
<http://www.imf.org/external/pubs/ft/wp/2012/wp12202.pdf>The Chicago
Plan Revisited, which advocates a return to full reserve banking thus
removing the power of banks to create money from nothing. Many within
Occupy, Positive Money and others have increased awareness of how
banks create money and the extraordinary power it gives them.

  <http://www.freecriticalthinking.org/daily-pickings/323-the-traumatised-society>Sharing<http://www.freecriticalthinking.org/daily-pickings/323-the-traumatised-society>
the bounty of the land and location value has been popularised by
Occupy, the Council for Economic Justice, the Commoning movement and
others while the concept of a citizens income is gaining traction.

All of these initiatives have a long way to go before they
permeate wider public consciousness and the mainstream media not
least because beneficiaries of the status quo will do all in their
power to suppress dissent and undermine those who seek to create a
better world for all.

As two occupiers writing in the Guardian newspaper explain
<http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/feb/28/fight-democratic-change-occupy-london>The
fight for democratic change can't be left to
