    * 11 Balcombe Protectors Acquitted On 9th Jan 
at Brighton Magistrates Court 11 protectors were 
acquitted of all charges. This was the first big 
trial following the 68 day blockade at Balcombe. 
Over 120 people were arrested courageously 
defending Sussex from fracking last summer. More 
than twenty trials are scheduled over the next

    * Government Touts New Fracking License Areas 
The UK government has announced that roughly 60% 
of the UK is now available to be licensed to 
fracking companies. See

    * Conventional Oil & Gas Companies Go For 
Shale Its not just Cuadrilla and IGas that are 
drilling deep exploratory wells. Viking UK Gas 
Ltd, a subsidiary of Third Energy Ltd has drilled 
into the

Shale in Yorkshire (using Cuadrillas drilling 
rig) and carried out a geophysical survey in an

west of Scarborough. North of Hull Rathlin Energy 
have sneakily drilled 2 deep wells which core
