OFFICERS have had to evict people who have moved into the area's 
public toilets, it has emerged.
It came to light as North East Lincolnshire Council today invited 
residents to have their say on the borough's public toilets as part 
of a consultation.
You can fill out a survey online or give your views at one of the 
following drop-in sessions:
10am to noon on Tuesday at Grimsby Market Hall.
2pm to 4pm on Tuesday at Riverhead Exchange in Grimsby.
10am to noon on Thursday at Cleethorpes Library.
2pm to 4pm on Thursday at the Discovery Centre.
10am to noon next Friday at Freeman Street Market.
The council wants to collate information from residents and visitors 
about the provision of public toilets and whether or not people are 
willing to pay to use them.
If charging is introduced, it's likely that any surplus will be 
reinvested in public toilets.
People are also being asked for their opinions on community toilet 
schemes, where cafes, shops and community centres open their toilets 
up to the public, rather than just

Councillor Chris Shaw, leader of North East Lincolnshire Council, 
said: "Public toilets are a valued public amenity, but they come with 
a number of challenges.
"The running costs might well be lower if everyone used public 
toilets for their intended purpose, but we've had instances where 
officers have had to evict people who had

"We also have to foot the bill for cleaning up the mess left by drug 
users and mindless vandals. Thankfully, the vast majority of people 
use public toilets respectfully and this consultation will give 
everyone the chance to put forward their views."

Something must be wrong with society when people are reduced to 
dossing in public loos.
