Subject: Campaign organising meeting this Saturday
Date: Tue, 13 Feb 2018 13:29:43 -0700
From: Axe The Housing Act <info at axethehousingact.org.uk>
The last few weeks have brought real encouragement for our campaign to
win Homes for All.
- The government deferred the sell-offs of 'high value' empty council
homes for two years, the latest u-turn on the Housing and Planning Act
(but it's still a threat).
- The Greater London Authority (GLA) voted unanimously to support the
demand for ballots before major redevelopment/demolition. Mayor of
London Sadiq Khan has now included this in policy.
- The Haringey Development Vehicle (HDV) is being pushed back by local
campaigners.
- In Southwark, the latest developer-friendly planning application has
been stalled, under pressure, by the council.
- In Hackney, tenants of the Northwold estate have successfully resisted
demolition.
- Tenants of Family Mosaic and Peabody have set up a campaign to oppose
another HA mega-merger.
- Campaigns to organise private tenants are gathering strength.
With local (and perhaps national?) elections coming up, now is the time
to push our campaign forward. Please come to the organising meeting
this Saturday -
SATURDAY 17TH FEBRUARY, 11AM, Blemundsbury Hall, Tybalds Close Estate,
off Lambs Conduit/Great Ormond Street WC1
Please let us know if you'd like anything put on the agenda.
ALSO, Wed (14th) is the monthly Grenfell silent protest, from a
different starting point (and also happening in Manchester). More
details below.
