> Dear all Landworkers' Alliance members, supporters and allies.

>
> The Landworkers' Alliance, the UK member of La Via Campesina have
> just launched an urgent 24 hour petition calling on the UK
> government to stop blocking the United Nations (UN) Declaration on
> small-scale farmers and Peasant's Rights.
>
> This week at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in Geneva, the
> Human Rights Council is in the final stages of negotiations to
> approve a declaration of rights for small-scale farmers and
> peasants around the world.
>
> It has taken 17 years to get to this point, led by social movements
> such as La Via Campesina, and if approved the declaration will help
> protect the livelihoods of small-scale farmers here in the UK and
> all over the world.
>
> This Friday, the Human Rights Council will decide whether to
> approve this declaration for adoption by the UN, and The
> Landworkers' Alliance have just found out the UK government are
> planning to vote against the adoption of the declaration.
>
> We urgently need to let the UK know that we, small scale farmers
> and civil society unequivocally support this declaration and we
> call on the Foreign Office not to vote against this declaration.
>
> Alongside the post-Brexit Agriculture Bill that is currently being
> negotiated to better support ecological farming in the UK, we
> believe the UN Declaration of Peasants Rights will empower farmers
> around the world, now and in future generations.
>
> We urgently call on the UK foreign office to abstain from this
> Declaration rather than vote against it.
>
> Please take action now and take a stand in solidarity with peasants
> rights and small-scale farmers both here and around the world.
> Please sign and share widely amongst all your networks - we have
> just 24 hours to make our voices heard!
>
> In solidarity,
