Sat 21 August 2021 - WILTSHIRE - Imber Bus

Imber is a village which was evacuated during 
WWII to extend the Salisbury ranges for pre-D-Day 
training but never returned to the villagers after the war as promised.
All that remains is quaint St Giles' Church and 
Imber is only open to the public Christmas, 
Easter and August Bank holday - and when the red flags are down.
Saturday 21st August: Imber Bus Day. Buses will 
run from Warminster rail station starting at 0945 
hours (9.45 am) with arrival at Imber church 1013 
hours (10.13 am) approx. The last bus for 
Warminster rail station leaves Imber church at 
1830 hours (6.30 pm). For full bus timetable, how

THIS IS A BUS ONLY DAY WITH NO OTHER VEHICLES 
PERMITTED TO USE THE MILITARY ROADS TO IMBER. The 
church of St Giles will be open from 1000 hours 
(10 am) until 1830 hours (6.30 pm) where light 
refreshments will be available; also, Imber-related merchandise.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT – train and bus

    * Train to Kings Lynn leaves hourly from Kings Cross £40 return.
    * Main other rail connections to Kings Lynn 
are via Peterborough on the East Coast Main Line, or Ely.
    * Then a five to ten minute walk almost due 
west through the centre of Kings Lynn to the bus station.
    * Thence the 36 Coastliner bus to Brancaster 
which leaves at half past the hour and takes 
about 90 minutes to trundle around the coast to 
The Ship, pub, Brancaster for £8.40 return.
    * Now it’s a 20 minute walk from the bus 
stop. Go about 100 yards back West on the A149 
and turn right, north, toward the coast up Broad 
Lane. for a little under a mile. That’s a 20-30 
minute walk to our camp at the Brancaster Beach Car Park.

SALISBURY PLAIN Friday 27th through to Bank 
Holiday Monday 30th August inclusive: The roads 
through Imber (Warminster to Gore Cross A360) 
will be open to the public. At the time of 
writing the SPTA Newsletter has not been updated 
to include other roads through Imber which might 
be open to the public. On this occasion vehicles 
can be driven to Imber village where there will 
be adequate parking in laybys. If possible please 
avoid parking on the roads. The church of St 
Giles will be open from 1100 hours (11 am) until 
1600 hours (4 pm) daily where light refreshments 
will be available; also, Imber-related
