Blacklisting
Blacklisting
Blacklisted building workers have won a major breakthrough in Europe
following a groundbreaking meeting. On Thurs 30th June 2011 a delegation of
blacklisted trade unionists and safety representatives from the Blacklist
Support Group held private talks in Brussels with László Andor, EU
Commissioner to discuss potential EU wide legislation to outlaw
blacklisting. Read more <http://www.ier.org.uk/node/685> and buy the book

IERs President, Professor Keith Ewing, the author of IERs report Ruined
Lives. Blacklisting in the UK Construction Industry
<http://www.ier.org.uk/node/419> accompanied the delegation and presented
possible legislative options open to the European Union highlighting the
fact that many of the companies involved in the blacklist were European
based. He also drew attention to the fact that blacklisting violates many
provisions of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, and that the EU had the
authority and responsibility to respond to this major violation of health
and safety standards.

NW TUPE Update 2011: Your questions answered
<http://www.ier.org.uk/node/620>
TUPE Regulations govern how workers are treated following the transfer of a
business or a change in service provision. The original aim of the
Regulations was to strengthen the rights of workers involved in transfers,
providing them with continuity of employment and the same terms and
conditions. But, 30 years after their introduction, the TUPE Regulations
remain one of the more complex and difficult areas of employment law.
We want to help trade union reps find their way through the TUPE maze so
this conference will provide an opportunity for you to update your
knowledge, put your questions direct to TUPE experts, and have a foretaste
of the Institutes new handbook on the TUPE Regulations.
The day will be led by Richard Arthur of Thompsons Solicitors an
acknowledged expert on the TUPE Regulations and author of the latest IER
publication on TUPE. We will also have some real life practical experiences
of TUPE from trade unions and other practitioners. See flyer
