IER at the 2013 Trades Union Congress
Many thanks to everybody who came over to our stall or attended our fringe
meeting at the Trades Union Congress this week. We were pleased to meet you
all and delighted to hear that our resources - including this News Brief! -
have been found valuable.
Our fringe meeting this year - Reconstruction after the Crisis: a manifesto
for collective bargaining
<http://www.ier.org.uk/resources/reconstruction-after-crisis-manifesto-colle
ctive-bargaining> - was a big event for us as it was there we launched our
latest publication (of the same name). The book provides a historical,
political and legal background to collective bargaining before laying out
detailed proposals for the implementation of more effective and widespread
collective bargaining in this country. It concludes with a ten-point
manifesto for collective bargaining, which encapsulates all of the main
points made by authors Professor Keith Ewing and John Hendy QC. The
publication is already selling quickly, so make sure you get your copy here
<http://www.ier.org.uk/resources/reconstruction-after-crisis-manifesto-colle
ctive-bargaining> before we run out.
And of course, many thanks to all those who came to see Keith and John speak
at the fringe meeting on Sunday 08 September, alongside our guest speakers
Len McCluskey, Bob Crow and Christine Blower. Apologies to those who were
forced to stand, but the our meeting room was not able to match the
popularity of the event!
Welcome also to those of you who signed up to this mailing list at the
fringe, and who were in turn entered in our prize draw for a brand new
Kindle Fire. Click here to find out about our lucky winner

Lobbying Bill
Our latest on the Lobbying Bill includes a briefing by Professor Keith Ewing
on the human rights implications of the proposals, and an explanation of the
many issues associated with the Trade Union Administration part of the Bill.

By Keith Ewing
A unique approach to the Bill through the lens of international human rights
law, which demonstrates yet another reason why this flawed legislation
should be scrapped.

Part 3 of the Lobbying Bill, which concerns Trade Union Administration.

relating to the Bill, and the way the government has introduced it to
parliament.
Collective Bargaining
Just after the launch of our Manifesto for Collective Bargaining, support
for very similar ideas was voiced in Parliament.
